Two-coach Metro most viable for Tricity: RITES

A study by RITES, the Rail India Technical and Economic Services, recommends a two-coach Metro system for the Chandigarh Tricity area. This decision was made after considering various alternatives, including bus systems, BRT, Metro Neo, and Metrolite. The Metro system was chosen because it offers higher passenger carrying capacity compared to...

Metrolite, which wouldn't be able to handle the tricity's projected peak hour traffic by 2054-2055. The Metro system's technology is already well-established in India, making implementation easier and less costly than developing expertise for the Metrolite system. The proposed Metro project will be implemented in two phases: Phase I (2027-2037) will cover 77 km, and Phase II (post-2037) will add another 77.5 km.

RITES, Rail India Technical and Economic Services, ne ek study kiya hai aur Chandigarh Tricity ke liye two-coach Metro system ko best option recommend kiya hai. Is decision pe pahunchne se pehle, unhone bus system, BRT, Metro Neo, aur Metrolite jaise aur options bhi check kiye. Metro system ko isliye chuna...

gaya kyunki isme Metrolite se jyada passengers le jaane ki capacity hai. Metrolite 2054-2055 tak tricity ki peak hour traffic handle nahi kar payega. India mein Metro system ki technology pehle se hi established hai, isliye isko implement karna Metrolite se zyada aasan aur kam kharcha wala hai. Proposed Metro project do phases mein implement hoga: Phase I (2027-2037) mein 77 km ka network hoga, aur Phase II (2037 ke baad) mein 77.5 km ka network add hoga.

and inspection. The original plan included a second depot in Zirakpur, but the Punjab government has declined to provide land there. As an alternative, Haryana has agreed to provide land in Sector 27, Panchkula, for a second depot. The first phase of the Metro project will begin in 2017 and finish by 2034, covering three routes: Sultanpur, New Chandigarh to Sector 28, Panchkula (34 km); Sukhna Lake to Zirakpur ISBT (41.20 km); and Grain Market Chowk to Transport Chowk (13.30 km). The second phase, starting after 2034, includes a 25 km line from Airport Chowk to Manakpur Kallar (5 km) and ISBT Zirakpur to Pinjore (20 km). The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved running the Metro lines underground in heritage sectors, increasing the project cost by ₹8,000 crore to ₹19,000 crore.

Punjab government ne New Chandigarh mein Metro depot ke liye 50 acre jaagha dene ka samjhauta kiya hai, lekin yeh Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) se surakshit area ke bahar hona chahiye. Sarkar is waqt forest department se check kar rahi hai ki yeh area de-listed hai ya nahi. Yeh depot...

maintenance aur inspection ke liye use kiya jayega. Puraane plan mein Zirakpur mein doosra depot bhi tha, par Punjab government ne wahaan jaagha dene se inkaar kar diya hai. Iske badle mein, Haryana ne Sector 27, Panchkula mein doosra depot ke liye jaagha dene ki haami bhar di hai. Metro project ka pahla phase 2017 mein shuru hoga aur 2034 tak khatam ho jayega, isme teen routes hain: Sultanpur, New Chandigarh se Sector 28, Panchkula tak (34 km); Sukhna Lake se Zirakpur ISBT tak (41.20 km); aur Grain Market Chowk se Transport Chowk tak (13.30 km). Dusra phase, 2034 ke baad shuru hoga, isme 25 km ki line Airport Chowk se Manakpur Kallar (5 km) aur ISBT Zirakpur se Pinjore (20 km) tak jaayegi. Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs ne heritage sectors mein Metro lines ko underground chalane ki approval de di hai, isse project ki cost ₹8,000 crore badh kar ₹19,000 crore ho gayi hai.
