Shatabdi Express to Start Operations in Assam Soon
-------------------------------------------------- ----------
When it comes to speed, the Shatabdi Express had no competition. It ruled the roost as the fastest train in India for a few good years, before being overtaken by newbie The Gatimaan Express. And now if reports are to be believed, Assam will get not one, but two Shatabdi Express trains.
The...
more... two Shatabdi Express trains are expected to ply along the Tinsukia-Guwahati and Naharlagun-Guwahati routes respectively.
Shatabdi Express trains are a series of superfast passenger trains operated by Indian Railways to connect metro cities with other cities important for tourism, pilgrimage or business. Shatabdi Express are day-trains and they return to the station of origin the same day.
# More Initiatives
In addition to that, a new fully AC 3-tier train will also start operations from Guwahati to Bangalore via Kolkata. A new train from Agartala to Kolkata is also on the cards. Besides that, a host of new initiatives are also being planned to provide better connectivity and facilities to the people of the Northeast.
Initiatives like upgradation of the Guwahati and Agyathuri Railway stations to world class stations are already underway under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Further, the Guwahati station is expected to have an executive lounge in line with airports. Moreover, the work on doubling the railway tracks in Assam would begin from Hojai on September 12.
#Second Railway Bridge at Saraighat
Not only that, the survey pointed out the possibility of a second railway bridge at Saraighat (over the Brahmaputra in Guwahati), with new rail routes between Salona and Khumtai, Sivasagar and Jorhat and Tezpur and Silghat. The Railways are also considering setting up a bottled drinking water plant under the RailNeer brand in Jagiroad. Land is currently being surveyed for the same.
At present, Assam currently has the Jan Shatabdi Express connecting Jorhat with Guwahati and three Rajdhani Express trains connecting Dibrugarh with New Delhi. The introduction of two Shatabdi Express trains is expected to improve railway connectivity in the State.
