Santosh Haadi previously worked as a cleaner at Dhanbad station, and Geeta Devi would make children beg on the station and engage them in sexual activities. The girl was found begging at the station 10 days prior and was sent to the CWC. She revealed the details of the gang-rape. The CWC filed a case at the Railway Police station and began an investigation. Using CCTV footage and another woman's information, the police identified Geeta Devi. After her arrest, Geeta Devi identified Santosh Haadi. The girl was residing at the Hope Home in Saraidhela. She could not remember her exact address and kept mentioning Varanasi. After counselling, she revealed her home was in Chopan, Sonbhadra district in UP. Her mother was informed and came to Dhanbad to take her back. The mother mentioned that the daughter had run away twice before. The mother was requested to stay with the girl during the trial to help secure justice.

Ladki Saraidhela ke Hope Home mein rah rahi thi. Usse apna address yaad nahin tha aur woh Varanasi mention karti rahi. Counselling ke baad, usne bataya ki woh UP ke Sonbhadra district ke Chopan ki rahne wali hai. Uske parents ko inform kiya gaya aur unki mom Dhanbad aayi aur usse saath le gayi. Maa ne bataya ki pehle bhi unki beti do baar ghar se bhaag chuki hai. Maa se request kiya gaya hai ki trial ke waqt woh ladki ke saath Dhanbad aaye aur doshi ko saza dilane mein help kare.
