According to you underground metro is 4 times costlier than elevated metro. But since elevated metro needs land acquisition and that comes after much delay thereby directly increasing the cost. Also, a lot of people have to suffer (wastage of fuel, wastage of man hours, noise and air pollution - all because of long and regular traffic jams every day on the metro construction route) for a long time. If this cost is calculated, underground metro will be much cheaper because it will be possible to complete the work in time.
Can anyone please tell how much was the original cost for Versova - Andheri - Ghatkopar? And how much was the final project cost?
The...
more... question is not about underground or elevated. The question is how governments in Mumbai killed metro projects in last 60 years. Mumbai definitely could have got a better mass transport system. If we keep on repeating the same mistakes, how can we have a world class metro system for entire Mumbai. Most of the people have seen the Delhi metro take shape and evolve over last decade. Why we can't achieve the same in Mumbai?
