ships to pass, was moved inch by inch over 450 meters in the past few weeks. The remaining four girders are scheduled to be launched by August 31st, along with making the lift span operational. The new bridge, with a single railway line but provision for a second, will replace the old Pamban bridge built in 1914. Work, which started in 2019, was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The old Pamban bridge was closed in December 2022 due to safety concerns, and trains are currently terminating at Mandapam. The Southern Railway aims to commission the new bridge by the last week of September 2024, with train services resuming between Mandapam and Rameswaram from October 1st. Officials are tasked with ensuring power supply, signalling, communication, and track fitness by September 30th.

few weeks mein 450 meters tak inch by inch move kiya gaya hai. August 31st tak remaining four girders ko launch karne ka plan hai, aur sath hi lift span ko operational karne ka kaam bhi complete hoga. New bridge, ek railway line ke saath, lekin dusra line banane ki provision ke saath, 1914 mein banaye gaye old Pamban bridge ki jagah lega. Southern Railway ka plan September 2024 ke last week tak new bridge ko commission karne ka hai, aur Mandapam aur Rameswaram ke beech train services October 1st se start honge. Officials ko September 30th tak power supply, signalling, communication aur track fitness check karna hai.
