He told his father that he would be returning home later and that the train would be delayed. He called his father at 9 p.m. to inform him that the train had not arrived. His body was discovered around 8 a.m. the next day, leading police to suspect that he may have fallen from a train. Police contacted Ajay's brother, Ashish, who was also in Surat, through the phone found near the body. The family rushed to the spot and identified the body. Ajay was the eldest of two brothers and two sisters. The Katra Kotwal confirmed that the death occurred due to a fall from a train and sent the body for postmortem.

ki woh ghar late wapas aayega aur train delay ho rahi hai. Raat 9 baje usne apne papa ko phone kiya aur bataya ki train abhi nahi aayi hai. Next day subah 8 baje ke aas paas uske body ko Natwa railway line ke paas mila. Police ko shak hai ki shayad woh train se gir gaya hoga. Ajay ke mobile phone se uske bhai Ashish ko call kiya gaya, jo Surat mein tha. Ashish ne apne ghar phone kiya aur family waale mauj ke par pahunche aur body ko pehchana. Ajay, do bhai aur do behenon mein sabse bada tha. Katra Kotwal ne bataya ki train se girne ki wajah se ek yaatri ki maut hui hai aur body ko postmortem ke liye bhej diya gaya hai.
