Priyanka Goswami, stationed at the Izzatnagar division of the Northeast Railway, qualified for the 20km walking event. This is her second Olympic appearance, having participated in the Tokyo 2020 Games and showing significant improvement since then. Another athlete from the Northeast Railway, Ajay Sarोज, missed the Olympics due to an injury sustained shortly before the trials despite qualifying for the 1500m race. India is hoping to surpass its record-breaking performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where it won 7 medals, surpassing the previous record of 6 set in 2012.
