He charged Rs. 150 per tonne of scrap and Rs. 300 for duty staff clearance, making an estimated Rs. 300-1000 per truck. The CBI is investigating the involvement of other railway employees. The demand for scrap increased after the Covid-19 pandemic, with over 80 metric tonnes being auctioned in the past year. This led to a system where Rai, in exchange for bribes, allowed trucks to leave the store without proper documentation. The complaint was filed by Akash, proprietor of Vishal Traders, who alleged that Rai demanded bribes during the process of purchasing 50 metric tonnes of scrap. He stated that Rai demanded Rs. 1000 per truck, Rs. 150 per tonne, and Rs. 300 for duty staff clearance, while the Depot Manager, Aviral Kumar, also demanded bribes. Following the complaint, the CBI filed an FIR on June 13th and arrested Rai and Kumar on June 14th, with both being sent to jail.
