The sleeper had fallen onto the tracks while being unloaded using a pressure machine, and the workers' attempts to remove it were unsuccessful. When the Vande Bharat Express approached, the workers moved aside. The train, number 22416, was traveling from Delhi to Kanpur and hit the sleeper near the village of Vichaulia. The incident caused a delay of about 17 minutes. A subsequent train, 12802 Purushottam Express, traveling from New Delhi to Kanpur, was also stopped near gate number 14 due to the delay. The DRM office in Prayagraj has ordered an investigation into the incident and announced disciplinary action against those responsible for the negligence.
