రైల్వేలో కొత్తగా ఒక పోస్టు సృష్టించాలంటే ఎంతో కష్టం. అందుకు చాలా సమయం పడుతుంది. కానీ, విశాఖ కేంద్రంగా ఉన్న వాల్తేరు డివిజన్‌లోని 220 పోస్టులను ఒడిశాలోని రెండు డివిజన్లకు తరలించే కసరత్తు ఆరంభమైంది. త్వరలో విశాఖ కేంద్రంగా ‘దక్షిణ కోస్తా జోన్‌’ ఏర్పడే అవకాశం ఉందనే సమాచారం వస్తున్న తరుణంలో ఇక్కడి పోస్టులను తగ్గించడంపై అనేక అనుమానాలు వ్యక్తం అవుతున్నాయి.
పునఃపంపిణీ పేరుతో: వాల్తేరు రైల్వే డివిజన్‌లోని నాలుగు సాంకేతిక విభాగాల్లో పోస్టులను పునః పంపిణీ పేరుతో ఒడిశాలోని రెండు డివిజన్లకు పూర్తిస్థాయిలో బదిలీ చేసే ప్రక్రియ సాగుతోంది. ఇందులో మెకానికల్‌ (డీజిల్‌ లోకోషెడ్), ఎలక్ట్రికల్‌ ట్రాక్‌ అండ్‌ డిస్ట్రిబ్యూషన్, ఎలక్ట్రికల్‌ ఆపరేషన్స్, సిగ్నలింగ్ అండ్‌ టెలికం విభాగాల్లోని పోస్టులున్నాయి. తూర్పు కోస్తా జోన్‌ పరిధి ఖుర్దా, సంబల్‌పూర్‌ డివిజన్‌కు పోస్టులు అవసరమైతే కొత్తగా సృష్టించుకోకుండా వాల్తేరు పరిధిలోవి తరలించడాన్ని పలువురు తప్పుపడుతున్నారు. స్థానిక కార్మిక సంఘాలు, అధికారులు ఈ అంశాన్ని తీవ్రంగా పరిగణించడం లేదంటున్నారు.
రైలు ఇంజిన్ల నిర్వహణ, ట్రాక్‌ల పర్యవేక్షణ, సిగ్నలింగ్, టెలికం విభాగాల్లో శాశ్వత ఉద్యోగుల అవసరం చాలా ఉంటుంది. గత ఏడాది అలమండ-కంటకాపల్లి స్టేషన్ల మధ్య రెండు పాసింజర్‌ రైళ్లు ఢీకొన్న ఘటన సిగ్నలింగ్ వ్యవస్థలో లోపాలను ఎత్తి చూపింది. విశాఖ రైల్వే స్టేషన్‌లో కోర్బా ఎక్స్‌ప్రెస్‌లోని కొన్ని ఏసీ బోగీలు అగ్నికి ఆహుతయ్యాయి. రెండు నెలల కిందట మహబూబ్‌నగర్‌ ఎక్స్‌ప్రెస్‌ విశాఖ రైల్వే స్టేషన్‌కు సమీపంలోనే పట్టాలు తప్పింది. ఇవన్నీ సిబ్బంది కొరత, సరైన పర్యవేక్షణ లేకపోవడం వల్ల జరిగాయనడానికి సాక్ష్యంగా ఉన్నాయి. ఈ క్రమంలో ఉన్న సిబ్బందిని శాశ్వత ప్రాతిపదికన తరలించే ప్రయత్నాలు సాగుతుండటం గమనార్హం.
సిగ్నలింగ్ అండ్‌ టెలికం విభాగంలో ఏకంగా 90 పోస్టులను ఎత్తేస్తున్నారు. కీలకమైన టెక్నీషియన్‌ పోస్టులూ ఇందులో ఉన్నాయి. లోకోషెడ్‌లోని జూనియర్ ఇంజినీర్, అసిస్టెంట్‌ లోకోషెడ్, ఫిట్టర్‌ పోస్టులను తరలించేస్తున్నారు. ఎలక్ట్రికల్‌లో టెక్నీషియన్‌ పోస్టులతో పాటు జూనియర్, సీనియర్‌ ఇంజినీర్ పోస్టుల్లోనూ ఇదే పరిస్థితి.

Local worker unions, officials are closely monitoring this. Jobs in railway engine operation, track inspection, signaling, telecom sections are much needed. Past incidents at Alamanda-Kantakapalli stations disrupted the signal systems. Some AC coaches in Korba Express caught fire in Vizag Railway Station. The Mahbubnagar Express near Vizag station faced some glitches two months later. These incidents highlight a lack of maintenance, proper inspections. Efforts are underway to permanently correct these flaws. In the signaling and telecom division, 90 posts are being filled. Essential technician posts are also part of this. They're relocating junior engineers, assistant loco shed fitting posts in loco sheds. Together with electrical technician posts, they're also shifting junior and senior engineers.
