The bullet train project will feature a J-Slab track system, a first in India, and progress is being made on track laying in Gujarat, with over 35,000 metric tons of rails delivered to locations like Surat and Vadodara. The bullet train, covering a distance of 508 km, will operate at a maximum speed of 320 km per hour, reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to 2 hours. It will start from Mumbai and stop at ten stations before reaching Sabarmati. The Railways plans to run 35 bullet trains initially, with 70 trips per day, increasing the number to 105 trains by 2050. The project's estimated cost is ₹1.08 lakh crore, with funding contributions from the Centre, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, and a loan from Japan at a minimal interest rate.
