has been awarded to BEML, who are expected to deliver the first train within 2024. The original plan was for 200 Sleeper trains, with contracts awarded to two consortia: RVNL-TMH-LES and BHEL-Titagarh Wagons. However, disputes over majority shareholding in the first consortium delayed progress, resulting in the Russian partner holding a 70% stake in the new SPV, Kinet Railway Solutions Limited. The Sleeper Vande Bharat aims to enhance passenger comfort and reduce travel time through design improvements and other upgrades. It is designed to operate at speeds up to 160 kilometres per hour, but track upgrades are necessary to fully realize this potential. The pricing of the Sleeper will be crucial for its success, with comparisons drawn to existing fare structures and the viability of existing services like the Rajdhani.
