This updated manual is expected to contribute significantly to the Indian Railways' ambitious goal of expanding its network capacity by 2030, accommodating the projected demand until 2050. The manual was prepared by a team of railway engineers from the Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering and zonal railways, with M.S. Hashmi, a 1990-batch IRSE officer currently serving as CPM/Construction/Prayagraj in North Central Railway, playing a key role in writing Chapter 15. Hashmi has a diverse career in various roles across different railway zones, including the Eastern Railway, Northeast Frontier Railway, North Railway, IRCON International Limited, Dedicated Freight Corridor, and Southeast Railway. He has also worked on international projects in Bangladesh and Mozambique for IRCON and contributed to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project.
