there is nothing to be amazed.. out of the stated figures , share of SL coaches would even be less than 10% . i dont have full figures .. but a rough estimation.
around 24 million passengers travel by IR daily out of which 40% belongs to Mumbai Suburban network and hence a major chunk of 2S travelers comes from Mumbai Suburban areas which nearly equals to 9.5 million daily passengers.
then we have other less popular but crowd puller suburban networks of Kolkata which ferries 2.5 million daily passengers ,...
more... Chennai Suburban network which ferries 1.2 million daily passengers , hyderbad , Delhi , Bangalore , Lucknow-kanpur.. all of them ferry in around 2 million daily passengers. (more than 15 million suburban passengers daily )
so more than 62.5% of the traffic IR is ferrying comes from the suburban network of the metro cities..
Than we have EMUs and passenger trains connecting major tier 2 / tier 3 from the regional centers (tier 4 , 5 ), used by daily commuter for work based trips.. which would account for atleast 3-5 million daily passengers around 15-20% of daily share..
Rest are the long distance travelers (above 150 kms) which may use 2S , sleeper and AC classes ... which would be around 17.5 % of the total out which AC travelers as stated are around 5% ...
