SER does not own anything in Howrah station. Only some running staffs of SER are at new complex. Reception/despatch of all SER side trains are done by Howrah RRI cabin/ER. So, ER is not preferring to accept so many SER trains at Howrah. SER would have to shift much trains as possible to SHM/SRC in future, hence a dedicated dn flyover line from SEL to SRC is already under construction to accept dn SER trains at SRC smoothly, remodelling of SRC & SHM as a terminal station is also happening.
And...
more... for remodelling at Howrah, 2 new cable stayed bridge is coming up - one at Howrah outer, another near Howrah ELS, construction of 4th line between Howrah & Tikiapara has started as seen by me yesterday, tender released to make PF15 capable to hold 24 coach, a PF16 shall be simultaneously constructed soon dismantling the goods shed beside PF17, it is also expected PF 10,11,12,13 shall be made capable of 24 coach. A metro station is also coming up inside Howrah station complex and the existing goods shed between PF15 & 17 might get relocated somewhere else to provide direct entry/exit path to Metro commuters who wish to access metro without stepping into ticketing zone of Eastern Railways.
Most probably while commissioning of the cable stayed bridge at Howrah a mega block shall be required.Utilising shadow of the mega block...Howrah is expected to get a state of art EI or SSI along with commissioning of Howrah-Tikiapara 4th line along with the under construction platforms .... thats of all upcoming construction around Howrah in near future.
