Half an hour at maximum, that is all it took.
Though it was a single line the speed was actually very good.
The train had a diesel traction mostly a PTRU WDM-2 upto ADRA, beyond which a TATA WAM-4 would take over until Jamshedpur.
Adra was the only extended stop back then and it was a highly popular stoppage for it's famous Alu-chops and...
more... Pasteries.
Swarnarekha was a highly popular train when the DHN-JRI-PEH-BJE-ADRA line was still active, post it's closure it is a pity shadow of it's former self.
Anyway ECR's inability to construct an alternative to this route has been baffling. This was a highly popular route and if an alternative had been built trains from SER & ECoR would have had much shorter running timetables as they could join the GC right at DHN instead of going all the way to GMO.
There was an earlier passenger train from DHN just like the train from ASN, under DHN ER's maintainence, however post ECR's formation this train had to transferred to ADRA SER and run through BJE-MHQ-GMO-DHN . Subsequent lack of interest from ECR forced SER's hand to restrict it upto GMO.
