***** Tribute to Conventional Loco WAP-4 ******
In our Railways though now we have seen the era of high speed Locomotives like WAP-7 hs , aerodynamic wap-5 etc but
We should not forget that the WAP-4 class of Locomotives are the most stable class of Loco in railways.
Earlier many WAP class of Locomotives were rolled out but they were not as...
more... successful as the WAP-4 even all WAP-6 Locos later converted to WAP-4 for their shortcomings.
WAP-4 still is a very dependable & stable coaching Loco and has a very good tractive effort. Rather it is treated as the best Loco for Coaching since 1993 and at present too.......
So, we should be proud of this Loco class for its flawless service since last 26 years.
Thanks to the engineers of CLW for making such efficient conventional loco
Pics of WAP-4 are attached :

Tractive effort Of WAP-4 : Starting : 30,800 kgf (302 kN; 68,000 lbf)
Tractive effort of WAP-7 : Starting : 322.4 kN (72,500 lbf)
Continuous : 228 kN (51,000 lbf) at 71 km/h
Is there any huge difference between the TE of WAP-4 & WAP-7 ????
Probably not
I do not demean the P-7 class they are the present & future of our Railways as per updated coaching loco for 24 coacher train is concerned.
Wap-7 has only the following benefits over P-4
**** Quick Acceleration & Deceleration
*****Regenerative Braking (Power back to OHE)
**** Hotel Load Facility
In our South Eastern Railway 95% mail/express trains still hauled by WAP-4 at 110/120kmph
South Eastern Railway use WAP-7 for very few trains
South Eastern Railway largely depends on their Red Beasts
