* Upgradation of speed to 160kmph and above need massive expenditure on track structure, especially the flattening of curves, strengthening of foundations/bridges, improvement of signalling, OH electrification wires etc.
* It is very difficult for IR to arrange funds for above upgradations. NDLS-BST/HWH routes of about 2800kms have been taken up for upgradation to 160 kmph at the cost of Rs 18000 crore. But sufficient allocation/release of fund has not been made.
* It is very difficult to give necessary prolonged blocks in the super saturated corridors to carry out upgradation work.
