(1) It appears from the report that after gauge conversion of Naupada-Gunpur section from NG to BG, the all intermediate stations are just halt stations without any train crossing facilities, due to which there can be only one train in the 90km long section thereby restricting the sectional capacity.
(2) CM have demanded recommissioning of Paralakhemundi and Kashinagar stations with train crossing facilities so that sectional capacity increase and more trains can be introduced in the section.
(3) The capacity and speed of BG is much higher than that of NG. Such...
more... act is justified only if traffic in the section is too low and can be managed with the lower BG sectional capacity, which is compensated by higher capacity of a BG train as compared to NG train.
(4) IR today avoid introducing passenger trains because the recovery in passenger trains is likely to be below 25% of the actual cost incurred by IR. Adding halt stations shall facilitate introduction of more passenger trains and more subsidy woes for IR.
(5) Demanding is the easiest job which help in making a good image in public through media. More over in IR, only the crying babies are well fed and the silent ones often have to remain contended with peanuts. A good move by Orissa CM
