The article raises some valid issues like how Gatimaan was overhyped in the media and it couldn't meet those expectations. That being said; the article is wrong on many counts. First up, BPL Shatabdi has only 1 stop at Mathura; not 4. Secondly; the price of Gatimaan is not twice of Shatabdi. The executive class retails for around 1.5 times that of BPL Shatabdi. While the train isn't revolutionary; it is definitely evolutionary. IR had to make multiple improvements to the tracks and signals ; not to mention training loco pilots for the speed increase. The speed increase may be minimal; but it is definitely no as small as it seems. From an LP's point of view; it's a giant increase.
Frankly,...
more... the public was expecting a semi-bullet train; media had convinced that it is some kind of big step for railways in India. Most people are un aware of the fact that running High Speed Rail would require dedicated infrastructure(see the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project).
I do hope that IR continuously makes improvements to its service(and provide actual access to the internet via wifi; they provide that in 12301/2 HWH Rajdhani; why isn't it possible here?)
