The very second 4.1 MW diesel freight locomotive jointly designed by Indian Railways' Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) in Varanasi, EMD, and India's Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO) is out now. There were some technical glitches with the prototype WDG-5 Bheem #50001, which has being looked out, and now it is already serving in Ahmadabad and allotted to Sabarmati Diesel Shed. Seems DLW has started rolling out WDG-5 for commercial operations as this WDG-5 #50002 (The big brother) is spotted in Delhi while being towed behind WDG-4 on Delhi - Rewari route.
The WDG5 is described as the most powerful diesel locomotive ever to take to the tracks in India. It has a tractive effort of 560kN and a maximum speed...
