16 passengers of Janshatabdi Express injured in freak accident
MANGALURU: Sixteen passengers on board 12052 Karmali - Dadar Janshatabdi Express were injured when an earth excavator of a private stone quarry fell down from Kaswan-3 cutting between Sindhudurg and Kankavali stations on Sunday. This infringed the railway track and hit one AC chair car coach and two non-AC chair car coaches of the train resulting in 16 getting injured, three of them grievously and rest escaped with minor ones.

more... Konkan Railway officials rushed to the site and ensured early clearance of the railway track. The corporation has arranged ex-gratia payment to the injured passengers. As a result of the accident, train 10103 Mandovi Express was detained for an hour and train 10105 Diva-Sawantwadi passenger for an hour and fifty minutes.
The railway track was not affected due to the accident and train services have resumed. As per directives of Bhanu Prakash Tayal, chairman and managing director of KRCL, not only the section was cleared at the earliest but free train journey passes have been arranged for the families of injured passengers who wished to visit them at the hospital. Union minister for railways Suresh Prabhu has ordered that inquiry will be conducted into the incident and strict action will be taken against the defaulter. This inquiry will be conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety
