Brief history: This was a NG line operated by London based McLead Russell & Co. Ltd. The NG line existed between Bankura & Rainagar, opened in 1917 & shutdown in 1995 due to extensive losses. The section was converted to BG during 2005-2008 & extended to Masagram. The Bankura-Rainagar section or Bankura Damodar River valley Railways was commonly known as BDR (hence i used
#BDR at starting, clicking on this will give access to all posts related to the section). The commuters rephrased the acronym 'BDR' to 'Boro Dukkher Rail' which means 'very sad rail' signifying the plight of slow trains, which used to run out of water or broke down in middle.
