Can you extend it to VGL Jhansi? It would be very useful as a safe chain option for south bound trains.

This is the ground level truth of IR which no one is ready to agree. In the frenzy of Vande Bharat IR, RB, RM neglected common people in the past 1.5 years. As one member from Lucknow has been mentioned there used to be locals between Kanpur Lucknow and MEMU type train from Lucknow to Ayodhya which are not restored after lockdown. The pity is even after Ram Mandir opening they have not introduced any short distance intercity in UP connecting Ayodhya. It's time to restart MEMU with morning dep at Kanpur via Lucknow to Ayodhya and return in evening. Another ICE from Kanpur to Varanasi with morning dep at Kanpur.

Updated. Though it's a proper 8 hour long train now. And starting before afternoon since there is an ICE from Lucknow Jn to Jhansi eitherways in evening.

There used to a Barabanki-Lucknow-Kanpur EMU system. The former BBK-LKO has zero dedicated EMUs now and latter, Lucknow - Kanpur, only 3 dedicated ones. It used to be more than twice this nos originally. This has led to overcrowding in other trains. Trains like Intercity or JBP-LJN Express now bear the extra load when this was originally carried by EMUs.

Let there be other intercity type trains from Lucknow to Jhansi in afternoon. This will have a different target audience. IMO departure at ayodhya can be beyond 1330 in such a way that hotel check out is at 1200 right, if it takes 8 hrs it should reach VGLB at 2130, still pax will be able to catch south bound trains. Those intercity type trains will take that load. Even if this comes, it will decongest the load on existing trains so doesn't matter even if its back to back.
