For those who have to go :
1. IIT KGP - Come out from the Pf 1 side of KGP and take Taxi/Auto/Cycle-Rickshaw. There would be plenty in amount but do take care before boarding because there is no prepaid booth or any rules regulations for fare deciding. So confidently negotiate before opting Taxi or Auto.
2. Kalaikunda - Check for any train (MEMU/passenger) for kalaikunda. That would be very much beneficiary. Or else , go towards the Pf number 8 side (the other side of Pf 1) and come out. Turn Left...
more... and walk bit ahead and turn right on second turn. You will reach Tempo (Tumtum/Vikram) auto stand. They directly go to kalaikunda and charge 30Rs per person. The total distance is 13 km (35-40 minutes journey as part of road before nimpura is under construction) from Kharagpur station. Or else if you are lucky enough then you may even find Airforce bus waiting for passengers to take to kalaikunda. Just show your identity card (Bus facility is only for military persons and their families) and travel without a penny spent for this journey. But do take care , there are 2 huge airforce stations in Kharagpur- Kalaikunda and Salua. So before boarding , so check which station's bus you are boarding.
The whole Kharagpur gives feeling like as if you have came inside a "Very Big" railway establishment with all states of people living together. Here i have seen Odia , bengali , Telugu speaking communities living together very efficiently. Shopkeepers here speak Odia in same fluency as they speak Bengali. Where ever side you go in Kharagpur , you will come across uncountable railway tracks every where. You will be surprised and scratch your head where this track goes or where does this track comes from.
PS: Kalaikunda airforce base in short form is called as KKD among tempo walas.

1. If you're in IIT KGP - Head out from Pf 1 side chill and catch a cab/auto/rickshaw. You'll find plenty around, just watch out before hopping in 'cause there ain't no fixed fare. So, negotiate like a boss before hopping in a cab or auto.
2. Going to Kalaikunda - Look out for a train (MEMU/passenger) to Kalaikunda. Easy peasy. If not, head towards the other side of Pf 1, towards Pf number 8 and step out. Go left, walk a bit, take a right at the second turn. You'll spot Tempo (Tumtum/Vikram) auto stand. They'll drop you directly at Kalaikunda for 30 bucks a pop. It's a 13 km ride (should take 35-40 minutes 'cause part of the road before nimpura is being fixed) from Kharagpur station. If you're lucky, you might spot an Airforce bus waiting to take folks to Kalaikunda. Just flash your ID (Bus is only for military folks and their fam) and travel for free. But, watch out - Kharagpur has 2 big airforce bases - Kalaikunda and Salua. So, check which base the bus is headed to before hopping in.
Kharagpur gives off vibes like a massive railway hub with folks from all over the place living together. I've seen Odia, Bengali, Telugu peeps living harmoniously here. Shopkeepers here speak Odia as naturally as they speak Bengali. Everywhere you turn in Kharagpur, you'll see railway tracks going all over the place. You'll be left scratching your head wondering where these tracks lead to or where they're coming from.
PS: Kalaikunda airforce base is called KKD by the tempo drivers.

2. Kalaikunda - Kalaikunda ke liye kisi train (MEMU/passenger) ko check karo. Woh bohot faydemand hoga. Ya fir, Pf number 8 side ki aur jao (Pf 1 ke opposite side) aur baahar nikal jao. Left turn leke thoda aage chalo, phir second turn pe right leke chalo. Tum pahunch jaoge Tempo (Tumtum/Vikram) auto stand pe. Woh seedha Kalaikunda jaate hain aur 30Rs per person lagate hain. Poora distance 13 km ka hai (Kharagpur station se pehle nimpura tak ka road construction ke chalte 35-40 minutes ka safar hai). Ya fir agar bhagwan ke ghar der hai, toh shayad Airforce bus mil jaye jo kalaikunda le jane ke liye passenger ka wait kar rahi ho. Bas apna identity card dikhao (Bus facility sirf military persons aur unke parivaar ke liye hai) aur safar karo bina kisi kharch ke. Lekin dhyan rakho, Kharagpur mein 2 bade airforce stations hain - Kalaikunda aur Salua. Isliye baithne se pehle check karo ki kaunsa station ka bus board kar rahe ho.
Pura Kharagpur ek aisa mehsoos deta hai jaise tum "Bahut Bada" railway establishment ke andar pahunche ho jahan sabhi pradesh ke log saath saath rehte hain. Maine yahan Odia, Bengali, Telugu bolne wali communities ko bahut efficiently saath mein dekha hai. Yahan ke dukaandar Odia mein utni hi aasani se baat karte hain jaise Bengali mein karte hain. Jahan bhi Kharagpur jaao, har jagah anek railway tracks milenge. Tum hairaan ho jaoge aur sochoge ki yeh track kahan jaata hai ya yeh track kahan se aaya hai.
PS: Kalaikunda airforce base ka short form tempo walon ke beech mein "KKD" ke roop mein jaana jaata hai.
