The existing third line project between Chhapra and Barabanki is progressing well, with a 11 km section between Cantt and Kusmhi already trialled. The project is expected to be completed within two years, leading to increased train speeds and frequency and eliminating unnecessary stops for passenger trains. The third line project between Gonda-Burhwal is also advancing rapidly and is expected to be completed in two years, enabling through-running of freight trains and reducing congestion at Gorakhpur junction, thus enhancing capacity and speed on the Barabanki-Gorakhpur-Chhapra route.
