Railways to bring down speed of select Vande Bharat, Gatiman Express trains

Indian Railways is planning to reduce the speed of premium trains like Vande Bharat and Gatiman Express from 160 kmph to 130 kmph on certain routes due to safety concerns. This decision was made after a recent accident involving the Kanchanjunga Express in West Bengal. The North Central Railway proposed the...

speed reduction, citing the failure of the Train Protection & Warning System (TPWS) on the Delhi-Agra-Jhansi routes. While the Railway Board is expected to approve the proposal, former officials like Shubhranshu, the mastermind behind Vande Bharat Express, criticized the decision, arguing that reducing speed without addressing the root cause of the TPWS malfunction is not a viable solution. They believe that focusing on proper maintenance of high-tech signaling equipment and tracks is crucial for enabling safe high-speed train operations.

Indian Railways jaldi hi premium trains jaise ki Vande Bharat aur Gatiman Express ki speed 160 kmph se kam karke 130 kmph karne wala hai, yeh bhi kuchh routes pe, safety ke liye. Yeh decision West Bengal mein Kanchanjunga Express ka accident hone ke baad liya gaya. North Central Railway ne...

yeh speed kam karne ka proposal diya hai, kyunki Delhi-Agra-Jhansi routes pe Train Protection & Warning System (TPWS) fail ho gaya tha. Railway Board ke is proposal ko approve karne ki ummeed hai, par ex-officials jaise ki Shubhranshu, jo Vande Bharat Express ke peeche dimag hain, yeh decision ko criticize kar rahe hain, unka kehna hai ki speed kam karke root cause of TPWS malfunction ko address nahi kiya ja raha hai, yeh solution nahi hai. Unka belief hai ki high-tech signalling equipment aur tracks ka proper maintenance karna jaruri hai, taki safe high-speed train operations ho sake.

I agree.

According to some recent discussions in the forum, it is a temporary step, until the long awaited , so called "kavach installation" on 160 kmph routes. track-fitted RFID tags shall be used for communicating an upcoming signal in and level crossing in driver cabin. Also ,There have been recent instances of Gatimaan running way over PSR at places.
...

However, I still regard it as a retrograde step. Despite field trials between 2015-2017 and live demonstration in 2022 , It seems kavach installation has not been done on routes with trains running at 160kmph . None of the recent rail accidents (except in Balasore one) were trains running at 110 or 130 kmph , let alone 160 .

Some issues have been plaguing IR for long - Lack of proper fencing, lack of adequate security system, lack of R&D in improvement of rail security, huge vacancies - They are trying to brush these under the carpet by reducing speed in name of risk mitigation .

Quoting from the above article -"we were not able to run trains at 160 kmph because the track was not safe to operate at that speed. Unless the organisation is culturally ready to maintain high-tech signalling equipment, high-speed tracks and rolling stock, no matter what trains we buy or make, we will be constrained to run at lower speed only."

It is more of a coverup exercise - issues like lack of adequate high-tech signalling equipment, high-speed tracks , maintainance issues, long working hours of LPs and ALPs , snail's pace progress on installation of anti collision systems - they are trying to divert attention from these issues by reducing speed in name of "risk mitigation and security measures". God forbid , but accidents can happen, and, have happened in the past at even lower speeds .

Gwalior News: ग्वालियर सहित 18 स्टेशनों के पूछताछ केंद्र ठेके पर देगा रेलवे

The Jhansi Railway Division has begun the process of hiring private employees to manage 24 passenger inquiry counters across 18 key stations in the division. various stations. To further reduce costs, the division has also contracted out ticket distribution at smaller stations to commission agents instead of railway employees. The selected private company will operate the inquiry counters for three years and will be paid ₹6 crore for their services. The 18 stations included in this scheme are: Veerangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, Gwalior, Banda, Morena, Dabra, Datia, Orai, Lalitpur, Pokhrayan, Khajuraho, Chitrakut Dham Karwi, Mahoba, Orchha, Harpalpur, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, and Ghatampur. The private employees will be required to work 24 hours a day and will be provided with a specific dress code, similar to metro stations.

Jhansi Railway Division ne apne 18 important stations pe 24 passenger inquiry counters ko manage karne ke liye private employees ko hire karne ki procedure start ki hai. Ye move Railway Board ke expenses cut karne ke directive ke baad aaya hai, jiski wajah se landlines, internet connections, aur cleaning staff...

bhi stations se hata diye gaye the. Aur kharch kam karne ke liye, division ne chote stations pe ticket distribution ko bhi commission agents ke haathon me de diya hai, railway employees ke bajaye. Selected private company inquiry counters ko 3 saal tak operate karega, aur iske liye unhe ₹6 crore diye jayenge. Ye scheme 18 stations par apply hogi, jo hain: Veerangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, Gwalior, Banda, Morena, Dabra, Datia, Orai, Lalitpur, Pokhrayan, Khajuraho, Chitrakut Dham Karwi, Mahoba, Orchha, Harpalpur, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, aur Ghatampur. Vande Bharat Express: खजुराहो-भोपाल के लिए कम यात्री, दिल्ली ज्यादा रवाना हो रहे

Gwalior Railway Station currently has two Vande Bharat Express trains stopping there. The Rani Kamalapati-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express has completed one year of operation, while the Khajuraho-Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat Express train started operating in March. Passenger response to these trains is higher for the Hazrat Nizamuddin route than for Khajuraho and...

Bhopal. The average number of daily passengers traveling from Gwalior to Bhopal on the Vande Bharat Express is 127, while the average number of passengers going to Hazrat Nizamuddin is 171. For Khajuraho, the average daily passengers are 43, compared to 107 for Hazrat Nizamuddin. The timings of the trains are cited as a reason for the difference in passenger numbers. The first Vande Bharat train in Madhya Pradesh, train number 20171, started operating on April 1, 2023, between Rani Kamalapati and Hazrat Nizamuddin. The Khajuraho-Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat Express, train number 22470, began its operations on March 12, 2023. The Rani Kamalapati-Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat Express arrives in Gwalior at 9:41 am and departs at 5:48 pm. The train's timings result in fewer passengers traveling to Bhopal, as numerous trains depart from Gwalior to Bhopal throughout the day. However, the Vande Bharat Express caters to passengers traveling to Delhi during the less busy hours between 9 am and 10 am. Khajuraho, being a tourist destination, sees fewer passengers on the Vande Bharat Express, which departs from Gwalior at 7:25 pm. Since the Vande Bharat Express operates before the Shatabdi Express, passengers are opting for it to travel to Delhi. The Rani Kamalapati Vande Bharat Express, departing for Hazrat Nizamuddin, takes half an hour less time than the Shatabdi Express. It completes the journey from Gwalior to Nizamuddin in 3 hours and 31 minutes, achieving speeds exceeding 140 km per hour between Agra and Delhi. The Shatabdi Express, traveling at a speed of 131 km per hour, takes 4 hours and 5 minutes for the same journey. While the Vande Bharat Express takes 4 hours and 34 minutes for the Gwalior-Bhopal route, the Shatabdi Express takes only 10 minutes longer, at 4 hours and 44 minutes.

Gwalior Railway Station pe abhi do Vande Bharat Express trains rukti hain. Rani Kamalapati-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express ka operation ek saal pura ho chuka hai, aur Khajuraho-Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat Express train March mein start hui thi. In trains mein, Hazrat Nizamuddin jaane waale passengers ki sankhya Khajuraho aur Bhopal jaane waale...
passengers ki sankhya se zyada hai. Gwalior se Bhopal jaane wali Vande Bharat Express mein average 127 passengers roz travel karte hain, jabki Hazrat Nizamuddin jaane waale passengers ki average 171 hai. Khajuraho ke liye, average daily passengers 43 hain, Hazrat Nizamuddin ke liye 107 hain. Passengers ki sankhya mein difference ka karan train ki timings ko bataya ja raha hai. Madhya Pradesh ki pehli Vande Bharat train, train number 20171, 1 April ko Rani Kamalapati aur Hazrat Nizamuddin ke beech chali thi. Khajuraho-Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat Express, train number 22470, 12 March ko start hui thi. Rani Kamalapati-Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat Express Gwalior pe subah 9:41 baje aati hai aur sham 5:48 baje jaati hai. Train ki timings ki wajah se Bhopal jaane waale passengers kam hain, kyunki din bhar Gwalior se Bhopal jaane wali bahut sari trains hain. Lekin, Vande Bharat Express Delhi jaane waale passengers ko subah 9 am se 10 am ke beech ke khali samay mein travel karne ka option deti hai. Khajuraho, ek tourist destination hone ki wajah se, Vande Bharat Express mein kam passengers hain, yeh train Gwalior se sham 7:25 baje jaati hai. Kyunki Vande Bharat Express Shatabdi Express se pehle chalti hai, isliye passengers Delhi jaane ke liye yeh train choose kar rahe hain. Rani Kamalapati Vande Bharat Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin jaane wali, Shatabdi Express se aadh ghanta kam samay leti hai. Gwalior se Nizamuddin ka safar yeh train 3 ghante 31 minute mein poora karti hai, Agra aur Delhi ke beech iski speed 140 km per hour se zyada ho jati hai. Shatabdi Express, 131 km per hour ki speed se chalti hai, aur 4 ghante 5 minute mein pahunchti hai. Gwalior-Bhopal route pe, Vande Bharat Express 4 ghante 34 minute leti hai, aur Shatabdi Express sirf 10 minute zyada, 4 ghante 44 minute leti hai.
