Out of the 141 km between Chopan and Garhwa Road, 23 km has been impacted by the need to build bridges, with completion expected by March. The 32 km doubling between Shaktinagar and Karaila Road is almost complete. 2:00 am on Sunday. Officials from the Jabalpur railway division, including DRM Vivek Sheel, immediately arrived at the scene to assess the damage and plan repair work. Over 100 railway officials and employees were deployed to repair the damaged track, but the extent of the damage posed a significant challenge. To expedite repairs, the railway department brought in approximately 300 private workers, sought assistance from the Bilaspur and Prayagraj divisions, and mobilized six Poclain machines, four Hadra, four JCBs, and a crane. Repair work continued throughout Monday night, with train services resuming at approximately 10:00 pm with limited speed. The use of a high-quality railway drone played a crucial role in the repair efforts. The drone allowed officials to accurately assess the extent of the damage, monitor the work of the repair crews, and plan repair operations, particularly in the challenging conditions of darkness and cold. Passenger trains were rerouted, with the Shaktipunj Express from Jabalpur to Howrah being diverted via Katni, Satna, Manikpur, and Prayagraj. The Howrah-Jabalpur Shaktipunj Express (11448) was diverted through Dhanbad, Chopan, Chunar, Prayagraj Chhivki, and Satna. The Ajmer-Santragachi train (18010) was also rerouted. The Katni-Bargawan and return MEMU train (06623/24) and the Jabalpur-Singrauli Intercity train (11651/52) were canceled. The Jabalpur-Howrah Shaktipunj Express (11447) departed from Jabalpur on Monday, two hours and thirty minutes behind schedule, via Katni, Satna, Manikpur, and Prayagraj Chhivki. The railway department initiated an investigation into the accident, beginning with a preliminary inquiry by a supervisor. The investigation will be escalated to the J-grade level based on the supervisor's report. While the railway department is yet to officially disclose the cause of the accident, sources suggest that a crack in the track caused by cold weather may have contributed to the derailment. Sources also indicate that the goods train may have been overloaded with coal, exceeding the capacity of the track.
