After years of appeals and correspondence with the central government, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand has now given his in-principle approval for the name change. The city was named after British Colonel Dalton in 1862, while the district of Palamu was formed in 1892. The renaming of the railway station will finally honor the local history and identity of the area.
