for a speed of 120 km/h. The project is being undertaken in phases. Currently, the track between Khandwa and Sanawad is operational, with MEMU trains already running on it. The next phase involves the stretch between Sanawad and Omkareshwar Road. The line is being constructed as part of the preparation for the upcoming Simhastha 2028, expected to draw large crowds to Omkareshwar. The plan also includes connecting Omkareshwar to Trimbakeshwar, another Jyotirlinga, under the Prime Minister Jyotirlinga Corridor project. This connection will facilitate easier access for devotees to both Jyotirlingas. Work is also underway to expand the Khandwa station yard to accommodate the increased train traffic.

A new railway station, Omkareshwar Road Station, is being built near the Omkareshwar Jyotirling Temple, about 10 km away, at Morgharhi village.
