The GSU unit also developed an additional loop line and two freight examination lines. The Sarla yard was remodeled with 64 new turnouts, 10.4 TKM of new tracks, and 195 routes commissioned. The facility began operating on June 14th, 2024, with freight train examinations commencing on June 25th. The yard has a monthly capacity to handle 90-100 train examinations and ROH of 100 wagons. The ROH and sick line work are being operated on a complete outsourcing model, making this a first for Indian Railways. The development is expected to stimulate economic growth in the Sambalpur region, attracting industrial and commercial activity and creating jobs.
