The cost increase is primarily attributed to the project's substantial delay. The project was initially hampered by land acquisition delays, and then hit by the pandemic. The BMRCL has also undertaken road-widening work near stations, and acquired additional land for Reach-5. The revised proposal will require approval from the State Finance Department, followed by the Centre's Urban Development department.
