It would also connect tourist destinations like Nelliyampathi, Peechi, and Ooty. Construction costs would be low as no bridges are required, and the line mainly passes through agricultural land, minimizing compensation requirements. The central government had allocated Rs. 321.2 crore in 2005-06 and Rs. 547.95 crore in 2012-13 for the project's initial stages, but it has not been implemented. The action committee, led by president M.A. Alauddin and secretary K. Girija Vallabhan, met with Union Ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurian recently to submit a request for the project's revival.
