Passenger trains through Rourkela delayed as freight traffic surges

Despite the South Eastern Railway (SER) focusing on increasing freight revenue, passenger trains on the congested Howrah-Mumbai main line through Rourkela continue to face delays. The East-West Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) proposed in 2016-17 to alleviate this congestion remains in planning stages. The Rourkela Junction is experiencing severe track congestion, leading...

to delays of up to several hours for the 52 passenger trains passing through it daily. This congestion is primarily due to the increased freight traffic, particularly mineral transportation. While the East-West DFC project is classified as proposed with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) expected by April 2024, no further updates are available. The proposed DFC, spanning three railway zones, includes two sub-corridors. The first sub-corridor stretches 2,073 kilometers from Palghar (Maharashtra) to Dankuni (West Bengal), and the second sub-corridor spans 195 kilometers from Rajkharsawa (Jharkhand) to Andal (West Bengal). The DFC is expected to start from Jharsuguda in Odisha, passing through Rourkela, Rajpur near Tatanagar, and then through Adra and Asansol Divisions of Eastern Railway (ER) before connecting to the recently commissioned Eastern DFC at Dankuni. SER officials conducted preliminary track surveys and route finalizations four years ago, suggesting a new alignment for the DFC route to cover the Koida Mining Sector in Odisha and the Dongaposi-Pandrasali mining belts of Jharkhand to reduce congestion on the main line. However, there are no recent updates regarding the DFC project. Meanwhile, the SER has reported a record freight loading of 211.60 million tonnes in the 2023-24 fiscal year, with the trend continuing in the current fiscal year. They loaded 34.91 million tonnes of originating freight in April and May 2024, generating Rs 3,166.66 crore, a significant increase from the previous year.

South Eastern Railway (SER) freight revenue badhane pe focus kar raha hai, lekin Rourkela se jaane wala Howrah-Mumbai main line pe passenger trains late ho rahe hain. 2016-17 mein propose kiya gaya East-West Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) abhi tak planning stage mein hai. Rourkela Junction pe track bahut crowded hai, isliye...

52 passenger trains har din kai ghanton late ho rahe hain. Ye crowd zyada freight traffic ki wajah se hai, especially mineral transport. East-West DFC project ko propose kiya gaya hai, Detailed Project Report (DPR) April 2024 tak aane wala hai, lekin iske baare mein koi aur update nahi hai. Ye DFC project, three railway zones mein, two sub-corridors mein banaya jayega. Pehla sub-corridor Palghar (Maharashtra) se Dankuni (West Bengal) tak 2,073 kilometer long hai, aur dusra sub-corridor Rajkharsawa (Jharkhand) se Andal (West Bengal) tak 195 kilometer long hai. Ye DFC Odisha mein Jharsuguda se shuru hoga, Rourkela se hota hua, Rajpur (Tatanagar ke paas) se hota hua, Eastern Railway (ER) ke Adra aur Asansol Divisions se hota hua, recently commission kiya gaya Eastern DFC se Dankuni mein connect hoga. SER officials ne four years pehle track survey aur route finalization kiya tha, aur DFC route ke liye ek new alignment suggest kiya tha, jisme Odisha ke Koida Mining Sector aur Jharkhand ke Dongaposi-Pandrasali mining belts ko cover kiya jaye, aur main line pe crowd kam kiya jaaye. Leikin, is DFC project ke baare mein koi latest update nahi hai. Iske saath, SER ne 2023-24 fiscal year mein 211.60 million tonnes freight load kiya hai, aur yeh trend current fiscal year mein bhi chal raha hai. April aur May 2024 mein unhone 34.91 million tonnes originating freight load kiya, jisse Rs 3,166.66 crore ka revenue generate hua, jo ki previous year se kafi zyada hai.
