As of March 1, 2024, there were 18,766 vacant positions for train drivers and assistant drivers across all railway zones in India. This represents approximately 14.7% of the total 127,644 sanctioned posts. This information was revealed by the Railway Board in response to a Right to Information (RTI) request.
