KRCL ka kehna hai ki yeh inflated distance network ka construction cost aur difficult geographical condition ki wajah se hone waale heavy maintenance cost ko recover karne ke liye jaruri hai. Lekin yeh practice network ke operation shuru hone ke 26 saal baad bhi jaari hai, jiske wajah se KRCL network se guzarne waali saari trains pe inflated fares lag rahe hain, jaise ki Matsyagandha Express. Jaise ki, Mangaluru Central se Mumbai LTT jaane waale Matsyagandha Express ka fare ₹565 hai, jo ki escalated distance calculate na kiya jaaye toh ₹475 hota.
