On August 16, 2023, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the doubling of the 96 km Gorakhpur Cantt-Valmiki Nagar rail line. The project is expected to be completed in 3 years, with the Railway Ministry allocating ₹1120 crore for the project. The doubling will allow for the running of additional passenger and freight trains, benefiting the people of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Maharajganj and Bihar. The project will include 16 major and 38 minor bridges, 10 crossing stations and 2 new halt stations. It will also involve the expansion of existing stations and construction of new platforms and bridges. The doubling of the Gorakhpur-Valmiki Nagar line will complete the doubling of the rail route from North to East India.

Doubling se additional passenger aur freight trains chalane ka mauka milega, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Maharajganj aur Bihar ke logon ko fayda hoga. Project mein 16 bade aur 38 chhote pul, 10 crossing stations aur 2 new halt stations banenge. Isme existing stations ka expansion aur new platforms aur bridges ka construction bhi hoga. Gorakhpur-Valmiki Nagar line ka doubling, North se East India tak rail route ka doubling complete karega.
