has requested the railways to operate 600-650 freight trains daily from May to August to address the anticipated surge in demand during the summer. The railways are adding 4,000-4,500 wagons by April, and have plans to allocate an additional 3,000 wagons during the summer months. The coal ministry projects a demand of 874 million tonnes of coal for the power sector in FY25, with production estimated at 1,111.6 million tonnes. To address ongoing logistical challenges, the coal ministry is investing Rs 50,000 crore in rail projects and first-mile connectivity. The Indian Railways is also working with the power and coal ministries to streamline coal supplies to thermal power plants. The railways are introducing wagon tipplers at power plant sites to expedite unloading and are currently conducting trials of multiple tipplers to optimize the coal supply chain.
