Indian Railways had a total of 301,750 vacant positions as of January 1, 2023, as stated by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Parliament. for each passenger. This subsidy is in addition to discounts for various categories, including the disabled, students, and patients. However, the Minister did not clarify whether the government plans to reinstate the discount for senior citizens, which was removed after the COVID-19 pandemic. The Minister's response came in response to a written question about the government's stance on the discount, following a recommendation by a parliamentary committee to restore the concession for senior citizens. While acknowledging the committee's recommendation to review and consider offering concessions to senior citizens in at least sleeper and 3AC classes, the Minister did not explicitly commit to restoring the discount. The Minister also revealed that the revenue loss due to passenger fare concessions granted to senior citizens in 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20 was approximately ₹1,491 crore, ₹1,636 crore, and ₹1,667 crore, respectively.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ne Parliament mein bataaya ki 1 January 2023 tak Indian Railways mein 301,750 vacant positions the. Unhone yeh jaankari BJP MP Neeraj Shekhar ke sawal ka jawab dete hue di. Unhone ek aur sawal ke jawab mein kaha ki Indian Railways ne financial year 2019-20 mein passenger...

Minister se ek written question mein poocha gaya tha ki COVID-19 pandemic ke baad jo discount khत्म ki gayi thi, us par government ka kya rukh hai, yeh question ek parliamentary committee ki recommendation ke baad aaya tha jisme senior citizens ko railway tickets par discount restore karne ki baat ki gayi thi. 1,491 crore rupees, 1,636 crore rupees, aur 1,667 crore rupees tha.
