The first railway minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, had promised a railway line for Jalaun, and a survey was conducted during Mamata Banerjee's tenure. Social activists like Akhilesh Lakshakar and Devi Dayal Verma have consistently raised this demand. Recently, Akhilesh Lakshakar led a campaign, collecting signatures and sending a petition to the Prime Minister. Earlier surveys for railway lines from Konch to Fafund via Jalaun (89.66 km) and from Mahoba to Bhind via Jalaun (217 km) have been completed, but construction has not yet begun due to lack of funds. In 2016, Jalaun residents held a series of fasts, including a fast unto death, demanding the railway line. They were given assurances, but no progress has been made.
