The 190-kilometer long narrow gauge railway line in India, known as the Shakuntala Railway, was built during the British Raj between Yavatmal and Murtijapur. narrow gauge line was built on Indian Railways land and neither the railway company nor the British had to make any payments. Currently, there are no train services on the Shakuntala Railway line (Murtijapur-Achalpur and Murtijapur-Yavatmal). The gauge conversion (narrow to broad gauge) has been approved in October 2022, and the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) was issued in January 2023. The Great Indian Peninsular Railway (GIPR) used to operate trains on this track during the colonial era, but this route was neglected after the nationalization of the railways in 1952. The Shakuntala Railway was established in 1910 by a private British company, Killick-Nixon. The 190-km journey between Yavatmal and Achalpur in Amravati district takes approximately 20 hours by rail. The railway line was operational for over 70 years from 1923, with the original engine being replaced by a diesel motor on 15 April 1994. The narrow gauge railway aimed to transport cotton from Yavatmal to Mumbai (Bombay) for shipment to Manchester, England.

Currently, Shakuntala Railway line (Murtijapur-Achalpur aur Murtijapur-Yavatmal) pe koi train service nahi hai. The gauge conversion (narrow to broad gauge) ko October 2022 mein approval mil gaya hai aur LOA January 2023 mein issue kiya gaya hai. Great Indian Peninsular Railway (GIPR), jo colonial era mein pura Madhya Bharat mein chalti thi, is track pe train service deta tha, but 1952 mein railways ke nationalization ke baad yeh route neglect ho gaya.
