First direct rail service linking Kashmir with rest of country to open soon

The long-awaited Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL), connecting Kashmir to the rest of India, is nearing completion. NH44. The project, costing Rs 37,012.26 crore, is being executed by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited and Ircon International Ltd. While the majority of the 272 km line is complete, the 111 km Katra-Banihal stretch presents challenges due to its terrain. Notable features of the project include the world's highest railway bridge, the Chenab Bridge, and India's first cable-stayed rail bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge. Train services are expected to commence within the next 3-4 months.
