One reason Kerala got most of the long-distance trains is because they used to have the capacity, a lot of trains came when the KCVL terminal came into use. Once they maxed out, additional trains are being taken to CBE and TEN. Interior Gujarat gets foisted with these trains at the other end because of lack of capacity in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad section from where most of the traffic is.
KR had one coaching terminal in MAO (RN maintains a couple of passenger trains) and that was occupied by trains from the North....

Coastal Karnataka needs connection to North Karnataka but not one SWR train goes south of MAO nor does any SR train run east of MAO. A namesake exception would be the older Poorna Exp which is the only train which has somehow managed to still hold on against mighty odds (Monsoon timings, Braganza Ghat doubling, alternate bi-weekly SF train) amidst the inter-zonal cold war.
KR has regularly played spoilsport for new trains citing operational constraints every time and had only relented in cases where there was significant political pressure exerted.

Over in Gujarat, they be gettin' stuck wit' dem trains from the South 'cause Mumbai-Ahmedabad section be too packed.
KR only got one terminal in MAO taken by trains from the North. Coastal Karnataka be needin' connections to North Karnataka but ain't no SWR trains goin' south of MAO and SR trains goin' east of MAO.
Good ol' Poorna Exp be battlin' all odds and still kickin' it. KR be blockin' new trains sayin' they got issues, only givin' in when politicians be pressurin' 'em.
please wait...Translate to HindiKerala ke paas sabse zyada long-distance trains ka ek wajah hai kyunki unke paas capacity thi, jab KCVL terminal shuru hua toh wahan bahut saari trains aane lagi. Jab unki capacity full ho gayi, toh additional trains CBE aur TEN ja rahi hain.
Ek namesake exception hai jise hum Poorna Exp kehte hain jo abhi bhi badi mushkil se lad rahi hai (monsoon timings, Braganza Ghat doubling, alternate bi-weekly SF train) beech mein jo inter-zonal cold war hai.
KR ne naye trains ke liye har baar operational constraints ka bahana dekar spoil sport khela hai aur sirf tab samjhauta kiya jab badi raajneeti dabav dala gaya tha.
