Southern Railway is facing criticism for its decision to make Perambur the fourth railway terminal in Chennai. Many commuters and social activists believe Perambur is unsuitable due to inadequate infrastructure, traffic congestion, and its proximity to Basin Bridge station, which experiences similar operational challenges. They suggest alternative locations like Tiruvallur, Pattabiram,... more...
Arakkonam, or Royapuram, citing better infrastructure, land availability, and connectivity. The railway official justifies the choice of Perambur due to its proximity to Loco Works, Carriage Works, and the Integral Coach Factory, allowing for land utilization without acquisition. The official also emphasizes the need to accommodate 26-car rakes, which other options lack. Villivakkam was ruled out due to limited land availability. Despite previous considerations of Salt Cotaurs and Royapuram, Perambur was ultimately selected as a satellite terminal to Central due to land constraints and flood risk in the Central area.
Chennai mein chautha railway terminal banne ke liye Perambur ko chuna gaya hai, lekin is decision se kai log khush nahi hain. Commuters aur social activists ka kehna hai ki Perambur mein infrastructure kaafi kam hai, traffic bahut zyada hai, aur Basin Bridge station jaise problems bhi wahan hain. Unka suggestion... more...
hai ki Tiruvallur, Pattabiram, Arakkonam ya Royapuram jaise jagah pe terminal banaya jaaye. Unka kehna hai ki in jagah pe better infrastructure, land, aur connectivity hai. Railway official ka kehna hai ki Perambur isliye chuna gaya kyunki ye Loco Works, Carriage Works, aur ICF ke paas hai, jisse bina land acquire kiye terminal banaya ja sakta hai. Unka kehna hai ki 26-car rakes ko chalane ke liye bhi Perambur ek acha option hai. Villivakkam ko isliye reject kiya gaya kyunki wahan land kam hai. Salt Cotaurs aur Royapuram pe bhi socha gaya, lekin Perambur ko Central ka satellite terminal banaya gaya kyunki Central ke aas-paas land kam hai aur flood ka risk bhi hai.
is better than TBM in my opinion cause Perambur is not too long from city. If TBM which is 30 kms away from MAS and 60 to 90 kms away from West and North people could be made as terminal, Perambur will easily work
But perambur is full - not sure about space
Underground terminal station like New York penn station can also be considered by railways
But would not that affect ICF ? Is it safe to have ICF and terminal next to each other? There are questions - I feel like they can make Chennai beach as 4th terminal instead of Perambur.
Yes its a success cause of college and IT but if you look at people reaching from West and North (like my GPD or TRL or AJJ) , its a pain. Need 2 hour of EMU journey to reach TBM.
Whereas Perambur or MSB is in the heart of the city and its a midpoint like MAS to West, South and North people cause for everyone its 45 mins EMU journey. Does it make sense?
Aug 08 2024 (20:23) Or they need to construct a railway brigge post Villivakkam to land on the terminal directly from the express line running above EMU line without affecting EMU traffic (like GDR rail bridge)
Not sure ! Main lines would be the EMU lines - here is the weird part if the terminal is proposed on the left side of the station - how would the long distance train cross to express track towards AJJ - it should go via EMU main line which would affect the EMU traffic. Or they need to construct a railway brigge post Villivakkam to land on the terminal directly from the express line running above EMU line without affecting EMU traffic (like GDR rail bridge)
Its the pain with the traffic I would say. TBM is good again its hit for sure but its not for all the people of Chennai and Suburban chennai. A terminal is needed in the city for sure.
No traffic to MAS is more from West than MSB, I dont think its good to make MAS as only express terminal. Moore Market should defnitely exists for suburban
Dec 16 2022 (01:57) That would give enough maintanence maintenance of VB at MAS and it can arrive around 18:55 19:00 (20:00 to next day 05:00 yard time at Basin bridge )
Good TT, But too late departure of VB from MYS. I would say 13:00 Dep of VB from MYS makes more sense than 16:00 PM. That would give enough maintenance of VB at MAS and it can arrive around 19:00 . (20:00 to next day 05:00 yard time at Basin bridge )

Passengers travelling between the Karnataka coast and Mumbai by the Mumbai CSMT-Mangaluru Junction-Mumbai CSMT Superfast Express (Train 12133/12134) have urged the Railways to make a rake-sharing... Rake-sharing sought for timely departure of Mumbai train
No need of all these stuffs .The train can start CST at 20:00 pm to reach Mangalore earlier. That makes on time departure of train from Mangalore and 04:30 arrival at CST. RSA just makes the cleanliness bad . Instead of 22:00 just makes the departure time of train at CST to 20:00 . Morning 05 to night 20:00 is enough for primary maintanence of the train at CST
No the point is it has early morning arrival at CST and that cannot be changed. People want early morning arrival.Thats the whole point,If you want 20:00 departure from MAQ or MAJN then the current TT itself is feasible . Thats not the point
