Why the Indian Railways changed course – and how it can get back on track

Indian Railways, despite being the fourth-largest network globally, faces a severe overcrowding issue. Social media highlights packed trains with passengers forced to travel in inhumane conditions. The issue is exacerbated by the Railways' refusal to acknowledge the problem and recent revenue-generating measures, such as higher fares, surge pricing, and replacing...

sleeper and general coaches with air-conditioned ones. These actions have led to a decline in affordable travel options, forcing many passengers to buy unreserved tickets and overcrowd sleeper and AC compartments. To address this, reverting to a higher proportion of general and sleeper class coaches is an immediate solution. A longer-term solution involves completing the Dedicated Freight Corridor project, which has been delayed for years, to free up space for passenger trains. Meanwhile, India is investing heavily in a bullet train project serving a small percentage of railway users. The article criticizes the government for prioritizing high-profile projects over essential ones.

Indian Railways, dunia ka chautha sabse bada network, overcrowded hone ki problem se jhujh raha hai. Social media pe aise trains ki pictures aa rahi hain jinme passengers inhuman conditions mein travel karne ko majboor hain. Railways yeh problem maan ne se mana kar raha hai aur iske badle mein revenue...

badhane ke liye kuchh measures liye hain, jaise ki fares badhana, surge pricing lagaana, aur sleeper aur general coaches ki jagah AC coaches lagana. Isse sasta travel options kam ho gaye hain, jisse bahut se passengers ko unreserved ticket kharidne aur sleeper aur AC compartments mein overcrowd hone par majboor hona pad raha hai. Isse deal karne ke liye, general aur sleeper class coaches ki proportion badhaana ek immediate solution hai. Long term solution ke liye Dedicated Freight Corridor project, jo saalon se delay ho raha hai, complete karna zaruri hai, jisse passenger trains ke liye space khul jaayega. Iske sath, India bullet train project pe bahut investment kar raha hai, jiska fayda railway ke chhote se percentage of users ko milega. Article government ko high-profile project pe zyada focus karne aur essential project ko ignore karne ke liye criticize kar raha hai.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
