The estimated cost of the Surat station redevelopment project is ₹1,477 crore, with ₹481 crore contributed by the Gujarat government and over ₹996 crore by the railways. The redevelopment work is being undertaken by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed by the Surat Integrated Transport Corporation (SITCO), Indian Railways, and the Gujarat government. The renovated Surat station will offer world-class passenger amenities, including a vast auditorium spanning 10,900 square meters, lounges, retail shops, and a skywalk. Additional facilities will be developed above the platforms to manage crowds. The station will have 41 lifts and 70 escalators for easy passenger movement and will be fully accessible to people with disabilities. It is being developed as a platinum-rated green building, promoting environmental conservation and ensuring efficient use of energy, water, and other resources. The redevelopment work is progressing rapidly, with significant progress made in various areas including the construction of the station building extension, new passenger holding areas, and the GSRTC building. The second phase of the project involves constructing a 5.5 km long elevated road network, which will connect major buildings and is expected to be completed within 2.5 years.
