Villagers demand full train services, threaten to hold stir

Residents of lower Kangra region, including Jawali and Nurpur, are protesting against the partial restoration of train service on the Pathankot-Jogindernagar narrow gauge railway track. service was suspended on July 6 due to landslides caused by heavy rain. While railway authorities conducted trials with seven coaches from Nurpur road to Guler station last month, they only restored service partially in two phases – between Kangra and Baijnath (Paprola) on September 26 and between Kangra and Jogindernagar on October 18. The Nandpur Vikas Sangharsh Samiti (NVSS) alleges that the slow pace of debris removal at Ranital near Kangra is delaying the full restoration of service.
