The Ministry of Railways has approved the extension of the third line to 85 km covering Khalilabad in Lucknow Division and Baitalpura in Varanasi Division. The third line between Gonda and Budhwal is also under construction. A proposal is in place to lay a third line from Barabanki to Chhapra via Gorakhpur (425 km) to enhance track capacity and cater to increasing train demands. The construction of the third line will provide a separate route for freight trains, enabling passenger trains to run smoothly. It will also reduce unnecessary delays at stations near Gorakhpur Junction and minimize train delays.
