Kanchanjunga Express Train Accident Live Updates: Death toll reaches 10, six year old succumbs to injuries

A collision between the Kanchanjunga Express and a goods train near New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, resulted in the death of 10 people, including a six-year-old girl. The collision caused two rear compartments of the Kanchanjunga Express to derail, resulting in damage to four coaches. Prime Minister Modi announced ex-gratia payments for the deceased and injured. Railway services resumed on the downline near New Jalpaiguri on Tuesday, June 18th, with the Avadh Assam Express being the first train to pass the accident site at 10:42 AM. The undamaged coaches of the Kanchanjunga Express reached Sealdah station on Tuesday morning with nearly 850 passengers. The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northeast Frontier Railway, will conduct a statutory inquiry on June 19th.
