The station is being built on a new track between the existing ओंकारेश्वर Road station and Sanavad, which will feature 12 bridges (10 already completed) and drainage systems. An underpass is also being constructed at Railway Crossing 274 at Mortakka to ease traffic congestion. The construction is expected to be completed by December 2023 and will offer a new transportation option for visitors to the ओंकारेश्वर Jyotirling temple. The existing Mahu-ओंकारेश्वर Road station was closed on February 1, 2023, and the new station is located about 1.3 kilometers from the existing station towards Sanavad. The MEMU train service, currently operational between Sanavad and Khandwa, will be extended to the new station, allowing devotees from Maharashtra to reach the temple by train.
